INVASION 6 Sunday 19th July 2015 10am – 4pm

With what has become the largest cosplay and sci-fi event in the North East taking place at Woodhorn on Sunday 19th July, you could definitely say that the start of the summer holidays at the museum will be out of this world.

Fans of all things sci-fi will be putting the finishing touches to their creative costumes and preparing to meet old friends (and even adversaries) from across time and space at the sixth annual event. Intergalactic visitors will rub shoulders with time travellers and superheroes much to the delight of museum visitors of all ages. Daleks and Doctors, Jedis and Jawas, Darth Vader, Batman and even an Alien have all been spotted in previous years.

“It’s a brilliant day for the whole family,” says Woodhorn Director Keith Merrin. “The extra-terrestrial visitors are a huge hit with our museum visitors, and there are lots of activities, fun and games going on so everyone can get involved.”

Adding a note of caution Keith explains, “We have been warned to expect an invasion of Daleks this year. They have visited before without incident, but there are rumours of even more of them attending the event. We anticipate them gathering at Woodhorn at about 10am. Hopefully they will come in peace.”

In addition to the army of extra-terrestrials, the event also hosts a Sci-Fair where visitors from all corners of the universe can pick up collectables and sci-fi merchandise.

Organisers would like to see as many people as possible getting into the spirit of the event and dressing up too. There will be competitions at 1pm for those aged 14 and under, and at 2pm for older aliens. Later in the afternoon, at 3.30pm, everyone in costume will be invited to take part in a huge group photograph.

Full details and a programme for the event can be downloaded at www.experiencewoodhorn.com

Visitors are advised that assistance dogs only are permitted within the boundaries of the museum and as the car park offers no shade, family pets would be best left at home.
